Apprenticeship in Suriname

Apprenticeship-style training in Suriname is usually described as on-the-job training or work-based learning. It exists through school-company partnerships, internships and separate labour-market training, but Suriname does not yet have one nationally standardized apprenticeship system with a general apprentice contract. The terms, certification, payment and protections depend on the provider, employer and program.

Tip

Choose a formal DBO program when you need a clearer educational progression, and consider SAO or a labour-market program when you need a shorter, practical entry into work or a later first qualification. Treat employer-based learning in Suriname as a program-specific arrangement: confirm the certificate, internship, payment, safety rules and complaint contact in writing before you commit. Do not assume that an internship includes a wage, a job offer or standardized apprentice protections.
