Living in Suriname

Suriname lies in northeastern South America on the Atlantic coast and borders Guyana, Brazil, and French Guiana. The country has around 575,991 people. A flat, partly agricultural plain stretches along the coast; farther south begins the extensive tropical rainforest. The climate is warm and humid year-round, with distinct rainy and dry seasons. In Paramaribo, many people live in houses with gardens, travel by bus, car, or bicycle, and work in areas including trade, public service, or agriculture. Cafés, markets, and family celebrations shape leisure time. In the interior, villages are often located along rivers and depend more heavily on boats or small aircraft.
