BAB can provide financial support for in-company or external vocational training if the personal eligibility requirements are met. The Federal Employment Agency compares the recognized needs with countable income and calculates the possible payment. This may include the training allowance and other personal income. Parents’ or a spouse’s income may also be included in the calculation; whether and to what extent depends on the individual case. Housing circumstances and assets may also be taken into account. There is therefore no single income or asset limit that applies to every applicant. To assess the application, the Federal Employment Agency requests information and evidence about the relevant financial circumstances. BAB is generally paid no earlier than the month in which the application is received.
Financial situation before vocational training in Germany
For vocational training assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe, BAB), the amount depends on the recognized needs and the income counted toward them. Depending on the circumstances, the Federal Employment Agency considers the applicant’s own income, their parents’ or spouse’s income, assets, and housing costs.
Tip
Plan your budget only once you know which income and housing costs will be considered in the BAB calculation. An incomplete or late application may mean that possible payments for earlier months are lost.
