Religion in Zimbabwe

Religion in Zimbabwe includes Christian, African traditional, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha'i, Latter-day Saint and Humanist communities. The 2022 census recorded Christianity as the largest affiliation at 85.3%, including Apostolic, Pentecostal, Protestant and Roman Catholic communities. Zimbabwean law protects freedom of religion, public and private worship, religious teaching and propagation, while religious organizations may also provide education, welfare and life-event services.

Tip

Choose a local religious community by its actual denomination, practices, leadership, fees and location rather than assuming that all communities in Zimbabwe follow the same rules. Separate purely religious activity from welfare, education, medical or marriage services, because each additional function can create different registration, approval or documentation needs. Check school, event, holiday and life-event arrangements directly with the responsible institution before relying on general constitutional protections.
