Traditions in Suriname

Traditions in Suriname are living practices, symbols and expressions passed through families, communities and faith groups across the annual and life cycles. They include Indigenous and Marron knowledge, Afro-Surinamese, Hindostaanse, Javanese, Chinese and Jewish customs, as well as clothing, music, dance, crafts and ceremonies. There is no single national traditions office or complete public register, so practice, access and continuity depend strongly on the community, place and occasion.
