Upskilling in Suriname

Upskilling in Suriname is organised through a fragmented mix of formal, non-formal and informal learning rather than one central system. Local pathways include nascholing, bijscholing, vaktraining, adult education, workplace learning and self-study, with providers such as SAO, COVAB, CENASU, SHTTC, SIVIS, EZOTI and programmes coordinated by VWA and MinOWC. Costs and recognition vary: some public programmes are free or subsidised, while an institution’s certificate is not automatically equivalent to an SNTA qualification. Available courses range from short entrepreneurship or job-entry training to specialist programmes lasting up to 18 months.
