For a tourist eVisa, use the official online account, complete the form, upload a color photograph and the required documents, pay with Visa, MasterCard or JCB, and print the approval letter. The passport name must match the machine-readable zone exactly. The approval letter remains valid for 90 days, processing takes at least three working days, and the visa is non-refundable. The eVisa permits entry through Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport or Kawthaung International Land Border Checkpoint. It does not cover cruise or seaport entry. Fix the intended entry port before applying and confirm the planned entry and exit points and any local access restrictions before departure. The eVisa accommodation field accepts a registered hotel, motel, inn, guest house, resort or boat. Do not enter a private residential address there. The booking should be linked to the traveler's name and include the complete address in Myanmar, including township and city. Arrange the destination address and airport or border transfer in advance, and save the English and Myanmar address offline. Transport conditions, restricted areas, security permissions and access to some states, regions or townships can change the practical journey. A visa on arrival is available only to nationalities covered by the current rule. The documented pilot for Japan, the Republic of Korea and Macau ran from 21 October 2025 for one year until 20 October 2026, with a US$50 fee, a 30-day stay, a passport valid for at least six months and two color photographs. It is for tourism only, cannot be extended and can lead to an overstay fine. Entry can still be refused by the authorities, including in connection with restricted areas or applicable blacklist decisions. Do not rely on older notices without live confirmation. At entry, immigration records the entry stamp. Customs uses the CR.193 Customs Baggage Declaration; declare jewelry and dutiable articles and keep the stamped copy for departure. Arriving passengers may also need the FED form under Myanmar's Aeronautical Information Publication. Myanmar currency is prohibited for import under the cited entry guidance. Exchange money only through official money changers and keep transaction records. The same guidance mentions US$200 or the equivalent for one week; confirm the current operational requirement with the airline or customs before departure. The International Health Quarantine Unit handles routine arrival controls. A yellow-fever or polio certificate may be required after travel from relevant affected areas. A public health emergency can add a health declaration, travel-history review, temperature checks or symptom screening, so check current Ministry of Health and airline instructions shortly before departure. A hotel or other licensed accommodation provider records foreign visitors and submits Form C to the Registration Officer within 24 hours. Form C records the name, nationality, arrival, departure or next address. The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism's Guest List Information System, or GLIS, also receives daily foreign-guest reports from licensed hotels and guest houses. The provider normally carries the reporting duty, while the guest supplies accurate data and signs where required. Keep a copy or other proof. If staying at a private residence, clarify the local Form C practice with the host and the relevant authority before moving in; no nationwide newcomer counter is established in the available evidence. A SIM card requires correct identity registration, usually with a passport or a foreigner record required by the provider. Incorrect registration can result in cancellation, so an official service counter is preferable. Myanma Insurance offers inbound travel accident insurance online, with published premiums of US$2 for one week, US$2.50 for two weeks, US$3 for four weeks, US$4 for two months and US$5 for three months; an air-risk supplement costs US$2. Coverage starts at the stated time after payment or after immigration, depending on the policy. Tourist entry does not automatically create residence, work, study or permanent-settlement status. A longer stay requires the appropriate status and sponsor-based process to be checked with the employer, institution, embassy or Ministry of Immigration and Population.
Arrival in Myanmar
Arrival in Myanmar combines entry clearance, immigration, customs and health checks with first accommodation and access to basic services. An electronic visa (eVisa) costs US$50, requires a passport valid for at least six months and permits a single 28-day stay after entry; a visa on arrival follows separate nationality and validity rules. Myanmar has no single nationwide arrival or newcomer registration portal, so travelers coordinate with several authorities and licensed accommodation providers.
Tip
Treat arrival in Myanmar as a coordinated travel file, not as one registration appointment. Settle the visa category, entry port, licensed first accommodation, transfer, health documents and offline contact details before departure. Do not use tourist entry as a temporary substitute for work, study or residence permission.
