Languages in Guyana

English is Guyana's official language and shapes schooling, examinations, government communication and formal work. Guyanese Creole (Guyanese Creolese) is the most widely spoken everyday language and has its own grammar; the school curriculum also takes account of languages used at home. Language learning takes place in the school system, adult and literacy courses, at Guyana's national university (University of Guyana), in limited Indigenous programmes and through digital offerings.
