Living in Guyana

Guyana lies on the Atlantic coast in northern South America, between Venezuela, Suriname, and Brazil; around 779,004 people live there. The country consists of a flat coastal plain, extensive rainforests, rivers, and savannas inland. The tropical climate is humid and warm on the coast, while inland there are regional differences in rainfall and temperatures. Many people live in and around the capital, Georgetown, while others live in smaller coastal towns or remote communities that are often accessible only by boat or via a few roads. Employment can be found, among other sectors, in trade, agriculture, mining, and services. In everyday life, markets, cricket, music, and gatherings with family and friends shape social life.
