Disasters in Guyana

Guyana's disaster management system covers floods, drought, wildfires, severe winds, lightning and other emergencies that threaten people, infrastructure or the environment. Flooding presents the highest national risk, especially along the low coastal belt where about 90% of the population lives. The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) coordinates preparedness, warnings, emergency response, relief and recovery through an all-hazards system. Official warnings, local instructions and timely impact reports help connect affected communities with assistance.
