The Federal Employment Agency pays BAB monthly during eligible in-company or non-company-based training. The start date depends on when the application is received: support begins no earlier than that month, not retroactively from the start of training. Submit your application before training starts or immediately afterwards if possible, and keep the confirmation of receipt. The first payment may arrive later if documents are missing or the review is still underway. Keep an eye out for questions and requests for further documents from the Federal Employment Agency, and submit missing evidence promptly. BAB is generally not available for school-based training; depending on the type of school, student BAföG may be an option instead.
Payment dates before vocational training in Germany
Vocational training assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe, BAB) is paid monthly. Eligibility starts no earlier than the month in which the Federal Employment Agency receives the application. If you apply only after training begins, you usually cannot receive BAB for earlier months.
Tip
Plan your BAB application around the start of training: the month it is received determines the earliest possible start of support. Applying late can therefore create a funding gap, even if you otherwise qualify.
