Religion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is predominantly Christian; Muslim, traditional and smaller religious communities also exist. The Constitution protects freedom of religion, public and private religious practice, and religious teaching and rites. However, religious organizations, schools and communities face different legal requirements, areas of responsibility and regional risks.

Tip

Do not treat religious services, ceremonies, schools and communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a single system. Clarify the local requirements, costs, deadlines and security conditions with each specific community. Religious rites do not replace civil registration.
