History in Uganda

Uganda’s history covers early human settlement, Iron Age societies, regional kingdoms, colonial rule, independence, political conflict and continuing debates about memory. Evidence comes from archaeology, palaeontology, oral traditions, local and dynastic histories, colonial records, parliamentary documents, museums and human-rights reports. These sources do not form one single national story, so Buganda, Bunyoro, western Uganda, northern Uganda, eastern Uganda and other regional perspectives need to be compared.
