The United Arab Emirates has a broad retail system. Common shopping places include supermarkets, small groceries, shopping malls, specialist stores, wholesale markets, traditional souqs, and online platforms. Souq is the local word for a market. Some souqs focus on goods such as gold, spices, textiles, perfume, or household products, while modern markets usually display fixed prices. Prices may include value-added tax, commonly called VAT. A receipt should show the purchased item, amount paid, seller details, and any tax information relevant to the sale. Fixed prices are normal in supermarkets, malls, and branded stores. Polite bargaining may be accepted in some traditional markets, but it is not appropriate everywhere. Returns, exchanges, warranties, and delivery conditions depend on the product and seller. Buyers should check these terms before paying, especially for electronics, furniture, jewelry, and customized goods. Online shopping and home delivery are common. Customers should verify the seller, total cost, delivery address, payment method, and procedure for damaged or incorrect goods. Imported products are widely available, but brands, sizes, labels, and ingredients may differ from those in another country. Comparing the unit price and reading the full label makes choices easier.
