Language in Tonga

Tongan (Lea Faka-Tonga) is Tonga’s dominant indigenous and national language, while English is widely used in education, law, government and international communication. Tongan is the official language of the Legislative Assembly, and laws are issued in both languages. Niuafoʻou is a locally recognized language whose preservation is supported through educational materials.
