Living in Togo

Togo is located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea and borders Ghana, Benin and Burkina Faso. The narrow country stretches from the humid coast to the savannas of the north; around 7.9 million people live there. In the south, the climate is tropical and shaped by rainy seasons, while the north is drier, with considerably longer dry seasons. In Lomé, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods, often in simple houses or apartments; motorcycle taxis, buses and shared taxis shape daily travel. In smaller towns and villages, agriculture, trade and crafts are important. Markets, family visits, football and music are part of leisure time in many places, although daily life can vary greatly depending on the region and income.
