Living together in Tajikistan

Everyday coexistence in Tajikistan is shaped by national law, local self-government and informal neighbourhood practice. A Jamoat is a territorial local self-government body, while mahalla and house committees organise local social and neighbourhood matters in many areas. Their roles differ by city, district and locality. Rights to equality, freedom of religion or conscience, association, lawful peaceful assembly, expression and petitions apply alongside limits on hate-based incitement and case-specific procedures.
