Living in Sudan

Sudan lies in northeastern Africa and stretches from the Nile to the Red Sea; around 41.8 million people live there. Vast deserts and dry savannas characterize the north, while farther south there is more rain and fertile land. Summers are very hot in many areas, and the rainy season brings varying levels of rainfall depending on the region. In cities, many people live in simple houses or apartments, while in rural areas they also live in mud houses or mobile shelters. The Nile and other water sources are important for agriculture and livestock farming. In Khartoum, buses, taxis, and busy city life shape everyday life, while in rural regions journeys are often longer. Visiting family, markets, tea, and sharing meals are part of leisure time in many places.
