Living in Slovenia

Slovenia lies in Central Europe between the Alps, the Adriatic and the Pannonian Plain; around 2.1 million people live there. The small country combines high mountains, wooded hills, karst landscapes and a short stretch of coastline. Winters are cold and snowy in the Alps, the coast has a milder Mediterranean climate, while the east is more strongly shaped by continental seasons. Many people live in detached houses or apartments, and in Ljubljana and other cities also in more densely built-up neighbourhoods. Cars, buses and trains are used for commuting; in cities, short journeys by bicycle are common. In their free time, families get together, go hiking, ski or spend time by rivers and lakes.
