Living in Samoa
Samoa is located in the South Pacific in Polynesia, northeast of Fiji; the island nation consists primarily of Upolu and Savaiʻi. Around 196,130 people live there. Tropical vegetation, volcanic mountains, coral reefs, and long coastlines shape the landscape. The climate is warm year-round, with a wetter rainy season and drier months; the slopes and interior of the islands generally receive more rain than sheltered coastal areas. Many people live in open houses on well-kept village properties, while building is denser and more urban in Apia. Family, village life, and church play an important role in everyday life. Buses, cars, and boats connect communities; people work in fields including administration, trade, agriculture, fishing, and overseas, while leisure is often spent by the sea or with family.
