Language in Saint Lucia

English is the official state language of Saint Lucia and the main language of government, schools, courts, Parliament, elections and public forms. Kwéyòl, also called Saint Lucian French Creole and locally known as Patois or Patwa, is widely spoken and strongly established in daily life, culture and community communication. Its institutional status remains fragmented: a national policy seeks wider bilingual and biliterate use, but full legal equality with English has not been confirmed.
