It is more useful for comparison than looking only at the installment or the advertised interest rate. Credit cards can be convenient payment tools, but carrying a balance creates debt. Paying only the minimum can extend repayment and increase the total amount paid. A secured loan uses an asset or other guarantee, while an unsecured loan relies more on the borrower's repayment promise and financial profile. Failure to pay a secured loan can put the guaranteed asset at risk. Lenders in Peru may assess income, existing obligations, and credit history. Payment behavior can affect future access to credit and the conditions offered by formal lenders. Informal loans may have unclear terms, social pressure, or unsafe collection practices. A written agreement should state the amount, currency, dates, payment method, and what happens if a payment is late. When debt becomes difficult, ignoring messages usually makes the problem harder.
