Living in Oman

Oman lies in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula, on the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea; around 4.8 million people live there. Deserts, the Hajar Mountains, long coastlines and oases shape the landscape. The climate is usually hot and dry, while Dhofar in the south is influenced by the summer monsoon and is greener during that time. In Muscat and other cities, many people live in apartments or detached houses and mainly get around by car. In smaller towns and oases, paths, neighborhoods and workplaces are often more closely connected. Jobs are available, among other sectors, in administration, trade, energy, construction and services. Family visits, markets, beaches and trips to wadis are common leisure activities in many places.
