Living in New Zealand

New Zealand lies in the southwestern Pacific and consists mainly of the North and South Islands. Around 4.9 million people live there. The country offers volcanic areas, long coastlines, fertile plains and the high Southern Alps. The climate in the north is generally milder and warmer, while the south has cooler, windy winters and heavy rainfall on the west coast. Many people live in detached houses; apartments and short distances are more common in Auckland and Wellington. Outside the major cities, having your own car is often important, while buses and trains are used mainly in urban areas. Jobs can be found in services, agriculture, education and technology, among other sectors. Leisure often means hiking, water sports, rugby, or spending time with family and friends.
