Consumer protection in Namibia

Consumer protection in Namibia is fragmented across sector regulators, supplier complaint systems and ordinary courts rather than one fully operational general consumer authority. The Consumer Protection Policy 2020–2025 set principles for clear information, safe payments and personal-data handling, fair and affordable redress, and protection from unfair practices. The Consumer Protection Bill 2024 remains in drafting, so current rights and complaint steps depend strongly on the sector, contract and existing law.

Tip

Treat a consumer problem in Namibia as a documented escalation process, not as a guaranteed refund claim. Contact the supplier first, preserve every record, identify the correct sector body and escalate promptly when the supplier does not resolve the matter. Do not rely on the draft Consumer Protection Bill, a planned tribunal or South African rules as if they were currently available.
