Living in Myanmar

Myanmar lies in Southeast Asia between India, China, Laos and Thailand, and borders the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea to the west and south. Around 53.7 million people live there. The country stretches from long coastlines across fertile river deltas and dry plains to forested mountains. While the monsoon brings heavy rain to the coast, the central and northern regions are often drier; at higher elevations, temperatures remain cooler. In cities, people live in apartments or simple houses, while in rural areas they also live in houses made of wood and bamboo. They travel by bus, motorcycle, bicycle or boat, work in agriculture, trade and services, and enjoy meeting at markets, in teahouses or at family celebrations.
