Unemployment in Moldova

Unemployment in Moldova covers a period without desired paid work, registration, income support, job-search duties and return to work. A registered unemployed person, called a șomer, is work-capable, has no job, is registered with a territorial employment office (STOFM) and is available to start work. ANOFM provides national employment administration through STOFM, while CNAS calculates and pays approved unemployment benefits. Labour Force Survey unemployment is a statistical measure and is not the same as the number of people registered with STOFM.

Tip

Treat STOFM registration as the starting point for both support and obligations, not as a passive application for money. First check the status and contribution conditions, then protect the registration by following the individual employment plan and reporting changes on time. If insurance benefit is unavailable or ends, compare ANOFM re-entry measures and household-based Ajutor social instead of assuming another unemployment payment exists.
