Upskilling in Malta

Upskilling in Malta means organised or self-directed learning that updates, deepens or broadens skills alongside or after initial education or work. The system is institutionally fragmented and uses terms such as lifelong learning, adult learning, further education, professional development, upskilling and reskilling. Public courses, employer training, funded schemes, accredited study and recognition of prior learning offer different pathways with separate access, cost and recognition conditions.

Tip

Choose the learning pathway by the result you need: a DLE course for structured skill development, an MQF-marked programme or VNFIL/RPL when formal recognition matters, and employer or individual funding only after checking eligibility and timing. Treat self-directed learning as useful preparation or evidence, not as formal recognition by itself. Check residence, age, requirements, capacity, total cost, certificate type and deadlines before paying.
