Housing in Mali

Housing in Mali includes rental homes, family or community accommodation, customary ownership, self-built homes, serviced plots, social housing and formal land arrangements. Access is mainly informal and the housing system remains fragmented: in ENSAN 2024, 58.1% of households owned their home without a title, 20.9% owned with a title and 12.0% rented. A secure arrangement depends on the type of housing, the land documents, the written agreement, access to services and the local security situation.
