Religion in Mali

Religion in Mali is mainly Islamic, alongside Christian, animist and other religious communities. The Constitution protects freedom of thought, conscience, religion and worship while defining Mali as a secular state. Religious practice includes prayer, fasting, festivals, sermons, religious education, pilgrimages and ceremonies for major life events.

Tip

Choose the religious pathway according to your concrete purpose: worship, education, pilgrimage, a life event or an administrative matter. Confirm the responsible local institution, current access, costs and deadlines before committing, and treat religious ceremonies as separate from any required civil registration.
