Religion in Macedonia

Religion is a protected legal category in North Macedonia, where people may hold and practise a faith individually or collectively, publicly or privately. The 2021 census recorded Orthodox affiliation for 46.14% of residents and Muslim affiliation for 32.17%, while census affiliation does not necessarily show active practice. Religious communities are separate from the state, equal before the law, and may organise worship, education and charitable work within legal limits.
