Insurance in Macedonia

Insurance in North Macedonia combines statutory schemes that cover health, pensions and unemployment with private policies for vehicles, property, liability, life and other risks. Statutory cover follows an employment, self-employment or other legal insurance basis, while private cover depends on the policy, premium and exclusions. The Insurance Supervision Agency (ISA) supervises private insurers; the Health Insurance Fund (FZO), the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIOM/PADIFNM), the Employment Service Agency (ESA/AVRM) and other public bodies administer the main statutory benefits.

Tip

Treat statutory and private insurance as separate decisions: first verify that your legal insurance basis and registrations are correct, then choose private cover according to the risks you actually carry. Give priority to compulsory MTPL and to policies whose limits, exclusions and claim conditions match your situation. Keep evidence and written records from the start because complaint deadlines and authority responsibilities differ.
