Living in Iceland
Iceland lies in the North Atlantic between Europe and North America and has around 353,574 inhabitants. Volcanoes, lava fields, glaciers, waterfalls and a long, sparsely populated coastline shape the landscape. The climate is cool, windy and changeable; winters generally remain milder along the coast, while the highlands can be snow-covered for long periods. Many people in Reykjavík and the surrounding communities live in modern homes and use buses or cars; outside the capital, roads and services are more spread out. Jobs are available, among other sectors, in services, fishing, energy, agriculture and tourism. Swimming pools, nature and community gatherings play an important role in everyday life; in winter, short days shape the rhythm.
