Living in Indonesia

Indonesia is a vast island nation between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, lying on both sides of the equator. Around 267.7 million people live there. Tropical forests, volcanoes, rice terraces, and long coastlines shape the landscape. Depending on the region, rainy and dry seasons alternate; in the mountains, it is cooler. In cities such as Jakarta, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods and commute to work by motorcycle, bus, or train, while in smaller towns, houses, rice fields, and local markets shape everyday life. Many people work in agriculture, fishing, industry, or services. People travel between the islands by ferry or plane; leisure activities include visiting family, eating together, sports, and festivals.
