Disasters in Guinea

Guinea faces recurring floods, landslides, severe storms, bush and urban fires, drought, coastal erosion, earthquakes, and technological or transport accidents. Flooding and severe storms affect many parts of the country, while exposure is especially high in Conakry, coastal lowlands, river corridors, mining areas, and hillside settlements. Guinea has national disaster-management institutions and plans, but responsibilities overlap and no single, clearly evidenced all-hazard access point covers every situation. Warnings, rescue, evacuation, relief, and recovery depend on the hazard, location, available resources, and coordination among national, local, and partner organizations.
