Health in Guinea

Guinea has a national health system with public, private, faith-based, military and traditional providers. Care commonly begins with community health workers or a local health post and can continue through health centres, prefectural hospitals, regional hospitals and national hospitals. Access, fees, medicines, staffing, diagnostic capacity and transport vary considerably by location.

Tip

Choose health care according to urgency, available capability and continuity of treatment. For routine care, confirm fees, opening hours, tests, medicines and referral arrangements before travelling. In acute danger, use the nearest available facility, arrange local transport and take your essential medical information with you.
