Living in Ghana

Ghana lies on the West African Atlantic coast and borders Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Togo; around 29.8 million people live there. In the south, coastal plains alternate with forests and lagoons, while extensive savannas predominate in the north. The climate is tropical, generally humid along the coast and drier and hotter in the north; rainy and dry seasons shape the course of the year. In Accra, Kumasi and other cities, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods and travel by bus, taxi or so-called tro-tros. In rural areas, agriculture and small markets are important. Family visits, football, music and shared meals are part of leisure time in many places, but vary depending on the region and place of residence.
