The Employment Agency or Jobcentre may grant a subsidy towards training pay if in-company training for a person with a severe disability or equivalent status would otherwise not go ahead. The amount depends on the individual support needs and the effects of the disability on training. The employer applies to the Employment Agency or Jobcentre responsible for the trainee’s place of residence. To ensure that funding can be taken into account from the outset, the application must be submitted before the training contract is concluded. For certain trainees, integration or inclusion offices may also grant subsidies for training costs and bonuses. Eligible costs may include trainers’ work, learning materials, chamber fees or protective clothing. Depending on the individual case, technical aids or investments to adapt the training place for a person with a disability may also be funded. Conditions, the responsible office and the amount of funding vary by type of assistance; there is no blanket guarantee. Companies should clarify the individual need and the responsible office early with the Employment Agency, Jobcentre or integration or inclusion office.
Employer subsidies for vocational training in Germany
There is no general subsidy for every vocational training programme available to companies. Financial assistance may be available especially when a company provides in-company training to a person with a disability or severe disability and special support is needed. Depending on the type of funding, subsidies may cover part of the training pay, additional training costs or the setup of the training place.
Tip
Plan the training costs without assuming a subsidy, and treat funding as possible relief rather than guaranteed income. If disability-related support is needed, clarify the suitable assistance early, because an application for a subsidy towards training pay must be submitted before the training contract is concluded.
