The Federal Employment Agency provides advice and assigns suitable participants to a pre-vocational programme (Berufsvorbereitende Maßnahme). Participants can try out different occupations in practice, prepare applications and improve their skills for entering the workforce. Depending on the programme, classes and the opportunity to earn a lower secondary school-leaving certificate may also be included. The programme does not replace a vocational training place or the qualification in a recognised training occupation. Vocational training assistance may be available during the programme, depending on personal and financial circumstances. The Employment Agency can also assess whether further support is needed.
Pre-vocational programmes before vocational training in Germany
Pre-vocational programmes help people look for a vocational training place, but do not lead to a vocational qualification. The Federal Employment Agency arranges suitable programmes offering occupational fields, classes, practical experience and work placements. A programme usually lasts no more than twelve months and is free of charge.
Tip
A pre-vocational programme may be useful if you need to compare occupations in practice or prepare your application more carefully. Before starting, ask the careers advice service which specific steps will bring you closer to a training place and whether you need financial support during the programme.
