Transport in North Korea

Rail forms the backbone of long-distance transport in North Korea, while cities use systems such as the Pyongyang Metro, trams, trolleybuses and buses. Roads, walking and informal bus or truck services fill gaps, but service density, schedules, fares and vehicle availability vary widely and are not reliably documented nationwide. Travel is also subject to permits and visitor controls, so foreign travelers generally cannot move independently across the country.
