Living in Dominica

Dominica lies in the eastern Caribbean between Guadeloupe and Martinique, with around 71,625 inhabitants. The volcanic island is characterized by dense rainforest, steep mountains, rivers, and hot springs. The tropical climate brings warm temperatures year-round, frequent rainfall, and a drier period; weather on the coast can differ from that in the wetter interior. Many people live in small coastal settlements or in and around Roseau, while the mountainous areas are less densely populated. Family ties, neighbourhood relationships, and shared meals play an important role in everyday life. Cars and buses connect the settlements, often via winding coastal roads. Jobs are available in agriculture, trade, services, and tourism, among other sectors; people spend their free time by the sea, along rivers, or at local festivals.
