School in Djibouti

The school system in Djibouti comprises optional preschool education (Préscolaire), five years of primary school, four years of middle education (Enseignement moyen), and three years of general secondary school. The state has overall responsibility; public schools charge no tuition by law, while private fees depend on the institution. School attendance is generally compulsory for Djiboutian and regularly resident children from ages 6 to 16, but access and retention differ especially between the capital, outlying areas, and rural regions.
