Elections in Comoros

Elections in Comoros choose the President of the Union, governors of the three autonomous islands, members of the Assembly of the Union and commune councils. Presidential, gubernatorial and legislative contests use direct voting, while each island council designates three of the nine additional Assembly representatives and commune councils later choose mayors and deputy mayors. The CENI, the central independent election administration, works with island and commune election commissions, while the Cour Suprême settles election disputes and proclaims definitive results. Voters generally need Comorian citizenship, age 18 on election day, civil and political rights, and registration on the current electoral list.
