Living together in Comoros

Everyday coexistence in Comoros is organized through villages and mdji, communes, community associations, mosques and other religious institutions rather than through one national service. A mdji is a local village and identity centre, while a commune is the basic territorial unit of local government. These bodies address public-space use, mutual support, local projects and disputes, but access and enforcement vary by island and locality.
