Religion in the Central African Republic

Religious life in the Central African Republic is shaped mainly by Protestant and Catholic churches as well as Muslim communities. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and conscience and separates the state from religion. However, regional conflict, displacement, and discrimination make access to communities, schools, places of worship, and cemeteries more difficult.

Tip

Always plan religious ceremonies in the Central African Republic together with the necessary civil-status records. Also check security, accessibility, and regional conditions, because conflict, displacement, and damaged or unsafe sites can change access at short notice.
