Employment in Central African Republic

Paid employment in the Central African Republic includes formal jobs with written contracts, public-service careers, and informal work arranged through employers, projects, communities, or personal networks. Agriculture provides the main livelihood for much of the workforce, while non-agricultural wage employment remains limited. Formal workers may receive protections through employment contracts, labour institutions, and the CNSS, but access and enforcement vary widely.

Tip

Treat a written, declared job as the safer default because it makes pay, duties, social-security coverage, and termination easier to verify. If informal work is the only accessible option, agree on the work, pay, timing, and responsible employer in writing where possible and keep evidence of what was agreed. Check current official rules before relying on minimum wages, notice periods, probation limits, or the newer Labour Code.
