Nature in Brunei

Brunei consists largely of evergreen tropical rainforest, mangroves, peatlands, river areas, coastal waters and coral reefs. Protected areas conserve habitats for proboscis monkeys, orangutans, hornbills, dugongs and sea turtles. Use, research and recreation are regulated differently depending on the area, protection status and permit requirements.

Tip

Plan every visit, removal of materials and project in Brunei's natural areas according to the protection status and purpose. Public Forestry parks are suitable for ordinary recreation; for Ulu Temburong, plan registration and an organised tour. As soon as you intend to use animals, plants, samples, peat, mangroves or forest areas, clarify the required permits in advance.
