Living in Belize

Belize lies on the Caribbean coast of Central America, bordering Mexico and Guatemala, and has around 383,071 people. The country encompasses flat coastal plains, mangroves, tropical forests and, in the south, the Maya Mountains; offshore reefs shape many coastal communities. The climate is warm year-round, with a wetter rainy season and drier months. Along the coast, sea breezes provide relief, while inland it is often hotter and in the mountains somewhat cooler. In daily life, people live in cities, villages or remote settlements, often in houses with verandas. People travel by bus, car or boat. Work is found in areas including trade, agriculture, fishing and tourism; free time is spent by the water, in nature or with family and music.
