The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate study through seven faculties, with full-time and part-time pathways. Entry options can include CAPE, GCE A-Level, an Associate Degree, transfer, international qualifications or mature entry for applicants aged 21 or older. Some programmes require the English Language Proficiency Test, the Mathematics Proficiency Test, a foreign-language qualification or specific subjects. Barbados Community College publishes general guidance of at least four CSEC General Proficiency passes at Grades 1 to 3, including English or an equivalent, but each programme can set additional subject requirements. Its online application normally requires identification or passport details, birth or status evidence and academic results, followed by payment and confirmation-code tracking. Other providers include UWI Open Campus, Erdiston Teachers' Training College, the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity, Bridgetown International University, Ross University School of Medicine Barbados and Victoria University of Barbados School of Medicine. The Barbados Accreditation Council, or BAC, is the statutory body for quality assurance, registration, accreditation, recognition and equivalency. A BAC listing supports an institution or programme check but does not guarantee every aspect of quality. Check the current accreditation or recognition status of the specific institution and programme before applying, especially for a regulated profession. There is no single Barbados-wide admission, fee, academic-calendar or funding rule. The institution, programme and student status determine the application process, academic period, charges and progression requirements. An application does not guarantee an offer, and a provider may cancel or defer a programme if capacity or minimum enrolment is insufficient. Alternative qualifications, transfer credit and exemptions require case-by-case approval. Applicants should compare the award level, duration, study mode, entry requirements, accreditation, professional recognition and likely total cost. Eligible Barbados citizens may receive government sponsorship for a first government-funded undergraduate degree at UWI, but sponsorship is not automatic and exceptions, quotas and self-financed programmes apply. Barbados Community College generally does not charge tuition to full-time Barbadian students under its published policy, although registration and other fees remain; part-time, evening and non-Barbadian students are charged tuition. A published Barbados Community College example lists annual registration and accident fees of BBD 320 for local full-time students, BBD 4,925 for regional students and BBD 8,925 for extra-regional students. These amounts can change. The Student Revolving Loan Fund serves eligible Barbadians across undergraduate, graduate, local, regional, extra-regional and other post-secondary categories, with priority areas and repayment and interest terms. The Ministry of Education Transformation's Tertiary Education Unit administers scholarships, exhibitions, awards, bursaries and grants. The 2026 National Development Scholarship requires Barbados citizenship, an age between 18 and 40 and admission to an internationally accredited university; its published coverage includes tuition, travel and other listed components. UWI fee examples for 2025/26 include student registration of BBD 1,110 in the first year and BBD 1,080 thereafter for eligible Barbados nationals, while an unsponsored campus-country student example lists BBD 6,300 tuition plus BBD 1,110 registration. A non-contributing or international fixed-programme example lists BBD 37,300 plus BBD 1,110 registration. Books, equipment, transport, housing, living costs, insurance and visa expenses can add to these figures. Students register for each academic period and may need to pay fees before course registration. UWI registration fees are non-refundable, and unpaid charges can create a financial hold or restrict access. Course changes, fee recalculation, withdrawal and leave of absence follow provider-specific deadlines. UWI handbook guidance gives an example of withdrawal by the end of the third week, with refund scales and time limits applying. Students must follow attendance, assessment, academic-integrity, conduct and progression rules. Under UWI's academic-warning framework, a semester GPA below 2.00 can lead to an academic warning, and repeated results below 2.00 can lead to Required to Withdraw under applicable faculty rules. Academic counselling, appeals, complaints, exemptions and transfers are handled through the relevant institution or faculty; BAC recognition does not replace an academic appeal. Accessibility and student-support arrangements differ by provider, so requests should be made early. Non-Barbadian students need institutional acceptance and immigration compliance. The Barbados Immigration Department handles student visas, and UWI guidance advises applying at least three months before the programme begins. Adult visa applications can require form H-1 or H-2, a passport, birth certificate, photographs, evidence of financial support, police certificates for relevant residence, acceptance evidence, a timetable or course outline, accommodation details and a BBD 300 fee. Where final assessment applies, processing can take up to 60 working days after acceptance. A student visa must remain valid throughout study; UWI guidance gives a maximum period of 12 months and requires an extension before expiry. Paid work is prohibited except for limited on-campus hours under the applicable conditions. Students must also keep passport, financial, address and immigration records compliant. After completion, the provider confers the award and can issue an official transcript or degree certification. A UWI transcript records the complete academic history, while a certification letter can verify the degree and that the programme was taught in English. Further study, employment and transfer depend on the receiving institution or employer. Regulated professions require separate registration or licensing by the relevant professional regulator. BAC recognition or equivalency can support employment, further study or licensing for a foreign qualification, but it does not itself grant admission or a professional licence. BAC applications may require official transcripts, translations and identification, and the published minimum processing time is 20 working days. Transfer credit and exemptions remain specific to the receiving programme; UWI publishes selected CAPE and Barbados Community College exemptions subject to faculty, course and GPA rules.
