Unemployment in Bahamas

The Bahamas Unemployment Benefit (UEB) provides time-limited income support to eligible employed people who lose work or are laid off. Eligibility depends on age, National Insurance contributions, the reason and timing of the work interruption, and registration with the Department of Labour Employment Exchange. Approved claimants generally receive 50% of average weekly insurable income for up to 13 weeks, subject to waiting days and possible payment delays.

Tip

Treat the Bahamas Unemployment Benefit as a short-term bridge, not as a replacement for your full income. Your best chance of avoiding delay is to check your contribution record, secure the employer documents, register with the Department of Labour and submit the claim within three months. If your citizenship or island access is unclear, resolve that before relying on a payment date.
